The Road to Reno is in the rearview and oh what a sight it is! After tearing down and loading up, it is safe to say that this year's show was a great success. The PCCHA cutters rolled into “The Biggest Little City in the World” with guns-a-blazing and left with nearly $150,000 in cash paid out and a boat load of prizes to go along with it.
Not only were the payouts on point in Reno, so was the show’s energy. We have all experienced shows that just have that overall good vibe, and this definitely seemed to be one of them. Reno weather this time of year can be hit or miss and the PCCHA lucked out with the summertime heat being bearable with little to no humidity to contend with. Once everyone made their way into the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center, it was big days of showing aged and weekend horses. Over 1175 runs totaled up over four days which could have turned into some midnight runs, but the two pen setup plus great cattle saved us literally hours with the latest night ending at 9:30pm. The nice set of polite and highly-manageable M-branded cattle took to quick settlements and allowed the contestants to confidently show their horses. This resulted in big scores and lots of great watching!
“It was just one of those great shows with a good feel,” Show Secretary Kathy Cardon said. “The cattle were great and Roger Booth, Mike Mieras and the crew from Reno Events Center stepped up to the plate making the ground in both pens outstanding during the whole show.”
Road to Reno had some great circuit awards and was also the final leg of the Cowan Ranch LLC, Saddle Series. Bryce Karl laid down a huge 76 aboard Rez A little Hell to win the $1,000 Amateur. Michelle Billingsley aboard her horse Allee Cat topped the $15,000 Amateurs while Jan Dunham on CR Third Cutting Cat won the $35,000 Non-Pro, both with 75s in the Finals.
The other highlight of the weekend was the Youth Invitational cutting which paid out $2,450 in scholarships to the junior division and $3,400 in scholarships to the seniors. Jordan Waldron did an amazing job with all of the young cutters. The Taco party and youth awards presentation was held Tuesday night before the show kicked off and it was very well attended, not to mention the Tacos were spectacular!
Our hats off to all of the stallion owners and those of you who once again jumped in to support this year’s Stallion Service Auction. It was a pleasure seeing many old friends tell stories and lift glasses to the memory of Modine Smith at the hosted bar that was supported by the Stallion Service Auction this year.
PCCHA business was discussed at the General Membership meeting and many questions were answered about the upcoming Holy Cow Performance Horse Futurity and the South Point Super Futurity next month.
Thank you to all of you who showed your horses in Reno. It truly was another great PCCHA event and we couldn’t do it without you! A huge thanks goes out to all of the show sponsors as well as those individuals who help us day in and day out to put on these cuttings. We really appreciate all that you do behind the scenes for all the PCCHA members.
It is time to look ahead to the futurity. Make sure and frequent the PCCHA.com website and follow close on social media as well. Also cutters, we have made many strides to improve the deliverability of our email blasts and text messages. Side Note: If you decide to “opt out” or “STOP” to any PCCHA texts, it basically deletes your account and it is extremely hard to get you back on the text list. So even if a PCCHA text doesn’t necessarily pertain to you that day, just ignore it and don’t Opt Out unless you want to be excluded from all future PCCHA texts. We will do our best not to inundate you with too many text messages, but more often than not the info we text out is very important and texting is the most effective way of directly and quickly communicating with our membership.
